PROJECT 8
Planting 10,00,000 trees Pan-India.
Project 8 is a bold initiative by ExploreIT aimed at planting 1,280 trees, providing a green cover for 160 employees. This initiative is part of our larger mission to plant and maintain at least 100,000 native trees across India, significantly contributing to the reduction of air pollution and promoting sustainable development.
What is Project 8 ?
In today’s rapidly developing and motorized society, air pollution has become a significant issue. India is the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. Despite the increase in forest cover, India is still short of the 33% target set by the National Forest Policy of 1988. Project 8 aims to combat this issue by planting native trees, providing additional income to local farmers, and raising awareness about the importance of native plants.
The Concept Behind Project 8
The project is named “Project 8” because it takes 8 trees to provide oxygen for one person throughout their lifespan. The goal is to plant and maintain at least 1,00,000 native trees across India, ensuring sufficient spacing for optimal growth. This initiative also includes donating native fruit trees to local farmers, providing them with an additional source of income.
Our Goals
Planting 1,00,000 Native Trees: Ensure sufficient spacing and maintenance for optimal growth.
Supporting Local Farmers: Donate native fruit trees to provide an additional source of income.
Raising Awareness: Educate communities on the importance of native and fruit trees.
The Importance of Native Trees and Fruit Trees
Native plants occur naturally in the region they evolved in. Their higher survival rate, adaptation to the local environment, and minimal maintenance make them ideal for large-scale planting initiatives. These trees are also resistant to local pests, reducing the need for fertilisers and pesticides.
Long-Term Environmental Impact: Native trees and fruit trees provide long-term environmental benefits, including soil stabilisation, reduced erosion, and improved water retention in the soil.
Biodiversity: Planting native trees and fruit trees promotes biodiversity by providing habitats for various species, contributing to ecological balance.
Improved Air Quality: Trees, including fruit trees, filter pollutants from the air, contributing to cleaner, healthier environments around corporate facilities.
Our Approach
Plant Selection & Planting Strategy
Native Plant Species: Prioritize indigenous plants naturally adapted to the local environment, requiring less water and maintenance.
Diverse Planting: Ensure a continuous supply of nutrients and habitat structures for local wildlife, promoting overall biodiversity.
Sustainable Practices
No Pesticides: Use natural pest control methods to maintain ecological balance.
Water Conservation: Implement water-efficient irrigation systems and select drought-resistant plants.
Community Engagement & Education
Workshops and Training: Educate communities about the importance of native and fruit trees, including plant selection and garden maintenance.
Volunteer Programs: Involve local communities in planting and maintaining tree plantations, fostering a sense of ownership and stewardship.
Impact
Environmental Benefits: Improved air quality, increased biodiversity, and enhanced ecosystem resilience.
Economic Benefits: Additional income for farmers, fresh fruits for local markets, and job creation through tree planting and maintenance.
Social Benefits: Enhanced community involvement, education, and awareness about environmental conservation.
Reduce Air Pollution
By planting native trees that absorb pollutants.
Enhance Biodiversity
Introduce a variety of native species to local ecosystems.

Urban Greening in Pune
Project 8 successfully implemented a large-scale tree plantation drive in Pune, involving local schools, residents, and corporations. Over 10,000 trees were planted, significantly improving the city's green cover and air quality. The initiative also included workshops on vertical farming, resulting in several community-run vertical gardens.
Rural Reforestation in Maharashtra
In collaboration with local NGOs and government bodies, Project 8 undertook a reforestation project in rural Maharashtra. The project restored degraded lands by planting over 20,000 native trees, enhancing biodiversity and providing livelihood opportunities for local communities through sustainable farming practices.
Corporate Partnerships for Sustainability
Project 8 partnered with several leading corporations to implement tree planting and vertical farming initiatives as part of their CSR activities. These partnerships resulted in the planting of thousands of trees and the establishment of vertical farms in urban corporate campuses, promoting environmental sustainability and employee engagement.
